25 Female Students Abducted as Bandits Attack Kebbi School
The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 25 female students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, were abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Monday.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Abubakar, the armed bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons, stormed the school around 4 a.m., shooting sporadically before scaling the fence and gaining access to the hostel.
“Unfortunately, the bandits had already scaled the school fence and abducted 25 students from their hostel to an unknown destination,” he said.
He added that the police tactical team stationed at the school engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
During the attack, one Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while another victim, Ali Shehu, sustained an injury to his right hand.
Following the incident, additional police tactical units, military personnel and vigilantes were deployed to the area.
Abubakar said the combined team had begun combing bandits’ routes and surrounding forests in a bid to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The police urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative to support ongoing security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability.
