650 NNPP Members Defect to APC in Kano

No fewer than 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gobirawa Ward of Dala Local Government Area, as well as parts of Fagge and Ungoggo LGAs of Kano State.

The defectors, who arrived in groups under various leadership clusters, were formally received by the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Bichi.

Welcoming them into the party, Bichi praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style and the APC’s focus on fairness, inclusiveness, and delivery of democratic dividends.

“The APC remains a party for all Nigerians — a platform that values fairness, inclusiveness, and national development,” Bichi said.

Bichi said President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was already yielding positive results, citing key reforms such as the student loan scheme, agricultural support programmes, and youth and women empowerment initiatives.

“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we have seen real progress — from education loans for students to empowerment for farmers and small business owners,” he said.

He added that his agency was collaborating with the Bank of Agriculture to offer soft loans to farmers, aimed at boosting productivity and achieving food security.

“We are working closely with the Bank of Agriculture to ensure that our farmers get the financial support they need to achieve maximum food security,” Bichi stated.

The APC chieftain assured the defectors that they would enjoy the same rights and privileges as existing members, stressing that the ruling party does not discriminate against newcomers.

“You are all welcome as full members of our great party. There is no difference between old and new members in the APC. Together, we will build a stronger Nigeria,” he assured.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Ahmad Gobirawa said their decision to leave the NNPP was influenced by what they described as the visible achievements of President Tinubu within his first two years in office.

“We have seen the impact of President Tinubu’s leadership in less than two years — from the economy to youth empowerment. We want to be part of this progress,” Gobirawa said.

He expressed optimism that their defection would help strengthen the APC’s support base not just in Kano but across the North.

The event, attended by party stalwarts, community leaders, and youth groups, was described as a major political gain for the APC in Kano State.

Observers noted that the defection aligns with the party’s renewed drive to consolidate its grassroots presence across the 44 local government areas.

With the new entrants, the APC is expected to strengthen its base in key NNPP strongholds ahead of future elections.

“This is a significant moment for our party. Kano is returning solidly to the APC,” a party leader said after the ceremony.
