ADC Born To Reset Nigeria’s Politics – Bolaji Abdullahi
The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has said the party was created to “reset politics and democracy in Nigeria,” insisting it emerged as a response to the government’s deliberate destabilisation of opposition parties.
Abdullahi made the comment on Wednesday while appearing on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.
Speaking during the interview, Abdullahi said the formation of the ADC was not a product of political scheming but a necessity imposed by the political environment.
“In 2014/2015, what you saw that birthed the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was a product of political strategy,” he said.
“But what has brought about the ADC now is a product of political necessity occasioned by government’s intention to destabilise all other political parties.”
According to him, the ADC stands out because it is not merely seeking power but aims to restore credibility to Nigeria’s political space.
“ADC is not just here for political power, ADC is here to reset politics and democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
Abdullahi explained that the internal crises that engulfed the Peoples Democratic Party led to a major political migration, including that of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“It was the conflict that shrouded the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that pushed someone like Atiku Abubakar out of the party to join the ADC. Same goes to some Labour Party members who have joined us,” he stated.
Abdullahi maintained that the ADC is gradually becoming a refuge for politicians disenchanted with their former platforms and those seeking a redefined political culture.
He added that the party intends to present Nigerians with a credible alternative built on internal stability and democratic values.
