Anambra Election: Obi Endorses Moghalu, Urges Voters to ‘Choose Wisely’

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has declared his support for the party’s governorship candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State election, George Moghalu.

Obi, however, stressed that the final decision on who emerges as governor rests with the people of Anambra, urging them to vote according to their conscience and for the good of the state.

In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, Obi described his decision to support Moghalu as a matter of integrity and principle, saying he could not turn his back on his party’s flagbearer.

“A man is known by his words and actions; that is called integrity,” Obi said. “I will support my party candidate, George Moghalu, despite it not being my election, but my conscience says so.”

He added that while he stands with the Labour Party candidate, it is ultimately up to the electorate to decide who governs the state.

“However, the decision of who becomes the next governor of the state lies solely on the shoulders of Anambarians (Ndi Anambra),” he said.

The statement further revealed that Obi joined a solidarity walk in support of Moghalu, braving the rain and bad road conditions in parts of the state to demonstrate his commitment to the Labour Party’s cause.

“In defiance of the rain and bad street roads in Anambra, H.E. P.O. came out for a walk on the street in solidarity with George Moghalu, and the Obidients are there to give their unalloyed support for this noble cause,” Yunusa stated.

Obi called on eligible voters in Anambra to turn out en masse and exercise their democratic right responsibly, describing the election as a test of civic duty and collective judgment.

“On a final call to the Anambarians (Ndi Anambra), it is your democratic right and decision to exercise your civic responsibility in electing your governor. Vote wisely!” he said.

Reaffirming his faith in the vision of the Labour Party and the wider Obidient Movement, Obi concluded with his familiar campaign slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”

The Anambra governorship election, scheduled for later this month, has attracted attention from major political parties including the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Obi’s endorsement of Moghalu comes amid calls from supporters urging unity within the Labour Party ahead of the polls.

The former Anambra governor remains an influential political figure in the state, with his words and actions expected to sway a significant portion of the electorate.
