Chairman of the Zonal Congress Committee, Jide Jimoh, disclosed that no fewer than 1,398 delegates from across the South-West geopolitical zone were accredited for the exercise.

He said the delegates were drawn from Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, and Lagos states.

Breaking down the figures, Jimoh said Lagos had 337 accredited delegates, Ondo 245, Oyo 243, Osun 156, Ekiti 211, and Ogun 206.

Following the adoption of consensus candidates, the committee chairman conducted voice votes before affirming the election of the new zonal executive members.

Those elected alongside Kekemeke include Alfred Aluko (Secretary), Ismail Majaro (Legal Adviser), Lateef Ibirogba (Organising Secretary), and Ayobami Afolabi (Publicity Secretary).

Others are Oyetunde Adesanya (Woman Leader), Daramola Adesuyi (Youth Leader), and Dayo Ishola (Persons With Disability Leader).

Jimoh described the congress as historic, noting that the South-West region has continued to produce strong political leadership.

He commended delegates for ensuring the exercise was peaceful and successful, urging the new executive to build on the party’s achievements.

Speaking on behalf of South-West governors, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the congress as a model for others across the country.

He praised delegates for their patience and loyalty to the party, while also commending the committee for organising what he called one of the best internal elections.

According to him, the APC must continue to operate within the framework of its constitution and established rules.

Sanwo-Olu also expressed confidence in the newly elected executives, stating that they would lead the party to victory in the 2027 general elections.

Responding on behalf of the new executive, Kekemeke thanked party leaders for entrusting them with the responsibility of steering the affairs of the party in the zone.

He pledged that the team would work towards ensuring victory for the APC in upcoming gubernatorial elections, particularly in Ekiti and Osun states.

The congress was attended by several APC chieftains, including governors Dapo Abiodun, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Abiodun Oyebanji.

Also present were the APC governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Hamzat, and his Ondo counterpart, Olayide Adelami.

Former governors Niyi Adebayo and Olusegun Osoba were also in attendance, alongside senators, members of the House of Representatives, state lawmakers, and other party stakeholders.

The successful conduct of the congress signals early political mobilisation within the APC as it positions itself for future electoral contests across the South-West and beyond.
