Ben Murray-Bruce reveals real reason he joined APC

A former senator who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Murray-Bruce, has explained his decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that his move was driven by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and vision for Nigeria, rather than political affiliation.

Murray-Bruce made this known on Thursday during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television.

Dismissing the significance of political party identity, the businessman and media entrepreneur argued that effective leadership is more critical than party lines.

“It’s about leadership. It’s not the party. Forget about party, parties are irrelevant. It’s about the man at the top,” he said.

The former senator noted that Tinubu’s ability to assemble a capable team and take difficult decisions for long-term economic reform was a major factor in his decision.

“President Tinubu has shown that he can lead Nigeria, he can fix the economy, he can put together a dream team,” he added.

Responding to criticism over the state of the economy, Murray-Bruce appealed for patience, noting that the country’s economic woes are deep-rooted and cannot be reversed overnight.

He likened Nigeria’s situation to that of a patient recovering from surgery, saying that while results may be slow, recovery is possible under focused leadership.

“People want immediate results, but that’s not going to happen. Nigeria is in very bad shape and needs time to recover,” he said.

Murray-Bruce, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment and political spheres, was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 and served until 2019. His defection to the APC comes amid increasing political realignments across the country.
