President Bola Tinubu has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State — her third ministerial portfolio since the inauguration of the Tinubu administration.

The statement added that President Tinubu has formally conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

If confirmed, Oyedele will assume office at a critical time when the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to stabilise public finances and implement far-reaching fiscal reforms.

Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded sweeping reforms aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.

Under his leadership, the committee introduced proposals targeted at widening the tax base, simplifying tax administration, and improving compliance, as part of broader fiscal sustainability efforts.

Oyedele, who hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, is widely regarded as a leading voice in fiscal policy and taxation.
The 50-year-old economist and accountant began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance.

He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Oyedele further strengthened his expertise through executive education programmes at globally renowned institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Professionally, he spent 22 years at PwC, joining the firm in 2001 and rising through the ranks to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader before his appointment to head the presidential tax reform committee.

Beyond his professional practice, Oyedele is also active in academia. He is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

The appointment signals what analysts describe as a renewed push by the Tinubu administration to deepen fiscal reforms and strengthen economic governance amid ongoing macroeconomic challenges.
