Defeating Tinubu In 2027 Will Be Herculean – Senator Olujimi

Former Senator representing Ekiti South, Biodun Olujimi, has declared that it will be an uphill task for any opposition party to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Olujimi, a former stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remark while speaking on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.
Describing the president as a deeply experienced political figure, Olujimi said Tinubu’s longstanding involvement in Nigeria’s political terrain gives him a distinct edge over potential challengers.
“This is the first time we are having a dyed-in-the-wool politician as a politician,” she said. “He knows his onions, he knows all of us, he’s been in the system for a very long time. It’ll be tough to beat him.”
She noted Tinubu’s longstanding influence and strategic political alliances across the board, adding: “This is a man who has worked with everyone, who has been useful to everyone, who has had opportunities to assist government—beating him? Herculean task.”
Speaking in a separate interview with TVC, the former Senate Minority Leader shed more light on her decision to dump the PDP for the ruling party, citing internal wrangling and her admiration for Tinubu’s governance style as key factors.
“Well, the PDP journey was a very long journey. It was pleasurable at first, but then it became very torturous and very problematic,” she explained. “And so it was time to move on. It was time to re-energise. It was time to reorder priorities.”

Olujimi expressed concern over the direction of her former party and said the APC under Tinubu’s leadership currently aligns more closely with her ideals of decisive and focused governance.
The former senator praised the Tinubu-led administration for its resolve in implementing bold reforms despite facing public criticism.
“I have always been a proponent of government taking very tough decisions and standing behind those tough decisions,” Olujimi said.
“This is the first time I will see a government take tough decisions, stand by it, and run with it. And that is the reason for which I have decided to pitch my tent.”
Her defection adds to the growing list of high-profile politicians who have crossed over to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, reinforcing speculations of early political realignments in the buildup to the next presidential contest.
