The Delta State Police Command says it has intercepted 400 live cartridges at the Bridge Head, Asaba, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Asaba, noting that the command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has intensified proactive operations against criminal elements across the state.
According to Edafe, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, who intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus carrying the ammunition.
“Operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a major movement of ammunition bound for Edo State,” Edafe said.

“The driver, appearing uneasy during questioning, drew the suspicion of the officers, who proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle. 400 live cartridges were discovered carefully concealed within the bus,” he added.
The police spokesperson noted that the suspect initially claimed the items were padlocks but became speechless when the parcel was opened.
“He was immediately arrested, and both he and the exhibit were taken into custody,” Edafe said.
He further revealed that an investigation was ongoing to unravel the source and criminal network behind the illegal arms movement.
Police Arrest Notorious Drug Baron in Warri
In a related development, the command confirmed the arrest of a notorious drug dealer identified as Onos Afokoghene, 37, who is allegedly responsible for distributing large quantities of hard drugs within Warri and adjoining communities.
Edafe said the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence by operatives of the Orerokpe Division, led by CSP Paul Oboware.
“Acting promptly on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer, Orerokpe Division, mobilised and led his patrol teams to the identified flashpoint in Jeddo Community, where the suspect and other hoodlums were reportedly engaged in selling and consuming illicit substances,” he stated.
The suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the police, but the team gave a hot chase and apprehended Afokoghene after a brief pursuit.
“A thorough search of the scene led to a startling discovery of illicit substances and paraphernalia used in large-scale drug sales,” Edafe added.

Items recovered from the suspect included 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of soaked weed suspected to be Indian Hemp, several sachets of Tramadol of various milligrams, and two POS machines believed to have been used for drug transactions.

“The Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of crime and ensure the safety and security of residents,” he said.
