Eid-el-Fitr: FG Announces Two-day Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and extended warm greetings to Muslims across the country.

He congratulated the faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The minister urged Muslims to continue upholding the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice cultivated during Ramadan.

He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national unity and progress.

Tunji-Ojo emphasised the need for citizens to reflect on the significance of the season and contribute to the country’s peace and development.

He encouraged Nigerians to promote harmony and peaceful coexistence during and after the celebrations.

While wishing Muslims a joyful celebration, the minister advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged in society.

He urged acts of kindness and charity as part of the Eid festivities.

The statement added that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening unity and fostering peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
