Ex-AGF Malami Confirms EFCC Invitation, Promises Cooperation
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed he received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, the senior lawyer said he would honour the call of the agency and keep Nigerians updated as events unfold.
Speaking through Facebook, Malami described himself as a law-abiding citizen committed to accountability and transparency in public service.
He wrote: “This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC.”
“As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation.”
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service, the principles that I both advocate and champion.”
“Rooted in public service and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold.”
The statement was issued without an official briefing from the anti-graft agency on the reason or subject of the summons.
Malami served as Nigeria’s chief legal officer from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
His time in office oversaw legal engagements involving national arbitration, governance reforms, financial crime matters and international asset recovery.
In recent years, he faced public scrutiny on issues relating to asset declarations and fund management, allegations he has repeatedly denied.
At this time, details of the EFCC invitation remain undisclosed, as the agency has not publicly revealed the issues under investigation.
