The standard bearer of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, Olayinka Braimoh, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Braimoh announced his defection on Saturday in Kabba, the headquarters of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, describing the decision as a strategic step toward repositioning the state for genuine progress.

“With the calibre of persons in the party, ADC coalition is the platform under which I believe my vision of a new Kogi State can be actualised,” he said.

Explaining the reason behind his move, Braimoh said the ADC provided a “bigger and better platform” to contest future elections and pursue meaningful reforms in the state.

“The opportunity for the coalition and the need to have like minds work together to move the mountain of poverty and visionless leadership from our dear state, Kogi, motivated me to join ADC,” he stated.

He lamented that despite Kogi’s enormous human and natural resources, the state had yet to witness effective leadership commensurate with its potential.

“Our state is far below expectation in terms of leadership performance. The best have not had the opportunity of leading, and that is why we decided to join this coalition to move Kogi forward,” he added.

Braimoh urged residents of the state to support the ADC, describing it as a “moving train” that would usher in genuine transformation.

He also called on eligible voters across the country to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the next general elections, stressing that meaningful change could only be achieved through active political participation.

“The cries for a better nation can only be made possible by those ready to take the bull by the horn by voting and seeking leadership positions,” he said.

In his remarks, the Kogi State Chairman of ADC, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, described Braimoh’s defection as “a bold and timely step”, assuring that the coalition was united and ready to deliver credible governance.

“The coalition is here to stay and determined to deliver the needed results in the coming elections,” Ogga stated.

He added that Braimoh’s entry into the ADC was “a big plus” to the party, emphasizing that the ADC was prepared to take centre stage in the next political dispensation.

“ADC has the sympathy of citizens at heart. By the time Nigerians give us power, they will see what we will do for the good of all,” Ogga said.

The event climaxed with the presentation of the ADC membership card to Olayinka Braimoh, symbolising his formal integration into the party’s structure in Kogi State.
