Faceless group behind fake letter to Tinubu – Plateau govt

The Plateau State Government has distanced itself from an open letter purportedly written to President Bola Tinubu by a group under the name, Plateau United Front (PUF), describing it as fake, mischievous, and ill-motivated.
The letter, signed by one Sargwak Haruna who claimed to be PUF president, sparked heated exchanges between the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, with both sides accusing each other of sponsoring the publication ahead of Tinubu’s planned visit for the burial of the late mother of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Dr. Gyang Bere, dismissed the group as faceless and not known to the government.
Bere said: “The so-called open letter is ill-motivated, mischievous, and does not represent the views of the governor, the government, or indeed any patriotic Plateau citizen committed to peace, unity, and mutual respect.”
He noted that even from the tone and content of the letter, “any layman would see the desperation of the sponsors, which falls far below the civil and respectful manner Governor Mutfwang and his administration engage with the Presidency and other eminent Nigerians.”
The governor’s spokesman stressed that Mutfwang has always publicly acknowledged the “remarkable interventions” of President Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Government in efforts to address Plateau’s security crisis.
“It is public knowledge that the governor has extended a hand of fellowship to all peace-loving Plateau citizens serving in various capacities at the federal level, urging them to prioritize peace, unity, and service above partisan considerations,” Bere said.

The government called on security agencies to investigate and unmask those behind the “malicious fabrications” so that they can face the law.
“Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, together with the good and law-abiding citizens of Plateau State, looks forward to warmly welcoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau any time he chooses,” Bere added.
