‘False and Misleading’ – Kebbi Govt Denies Hiring Chinese Firm to Fight Bandits

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed media reports alleging that it hired a Chinese security company, G-Safety, to help combat banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
The report, which circulated on some media platforms had claimed that Governor Nasir Idris hosted representatives of the global security consortium at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where discussions reportedly focused on collaboration in intelligence sharing, capacity building, and technological support for local security agencies.
However, in a statement issued on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, described the publication as “false, misleading, and unfounded.”
“The attention of the Kebbi State Government has been drawn to a recent media report claiming that the State Government has hired a Chinese security firm, G-Safety, to combat banditry and related crimes in the state. The Government wishes to categorically state that no such agreement or contract has been signed with any foreign security company,” the statement read.
According to the CPS, the Idris administration has not entered into any form of partnership, contract, or agreement with G-Safety or any other international security organisation.
He explained that while the government remains open to innovation and support in addressing insecurity, no official engagement has been made with any external company for security operations in the state.
“Governor Nasir Idris has not signed, approved, or authorised any agreement with a Chinese or foreign security firm. The story making the rounds is completely baseless and should be disregarded,” the statement added.

The Kebbi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the capacity of existing Nigerian security agencies, including the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, and other paramilitary organisations, in tackling insecurity.
Ahmed Idris noted that the administration’s focus remains on achieving lasting peace, protection of lives and property, and strengthening collaboration with local communities to ensure the safety of residents.
“The government’s priority is to consolidate ongoing support for military operations and security formations within the state. We are working closely with all relevant agencies to guarantee peace and stability,” he said.
The governor’s spokesman also cautioned journalists and media organisations against spreading unverified information capable of misleading the public and causing unnecessary panic.
“We urge the media to verify their information from credible and official government sources before publication. The spread of unsubstantiated claims only serves to misinform citizens,” he warned.
Since assuming office, Governor Nasir Idris has made security one of the top priorities of his administration. He has consistently provided logistical and operational support to security agencies, as well as encouraged community-based peace initiatives in rural areas affected by banditry.
The Kebbi State Government reiterated that it would continue to pursue all lawful means to strengthen security across the state, but without resorting to misinformation or speculative foreign partnerships.
