Five Enugu PDP Reps, Plateau LP Lawmaker Defect to APC
The House of Representatives witnessed a dramatic shift on Thursday as five members from Enugu State and one from Plateau State formally announced their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read their letters of resignation during plenary, confirming their exit from the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.
The Enugu lawmakers include Obetta Chidi (Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency), Anayo Onwuegbu (Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency), Dennis Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency), Martins Oke (Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency), and Nnolim Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency).
Also, Daniel Asama, representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency of Plateau State, dumped the Labour Party for the APC.
The defectors explained that their decision was driven by what they described as “protracted and irreconcilable crises” in their former political parties.
Speaker Abbas, while reacting to their move, said the lawmakers had “taken the right decision” by aligning with the ruling party.
The plenary session also witnessed the presence of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who recently defected to the APC himself, and the national chairman of the party, Nentawe Yilwatda.
Their presence on the floor of the House underscored the significance of the defections, which further strengthened the APC’s growing influence in both Enugu and Plateau states.
