Four Soldiers Killed As Troops Repel Terrorist Attack In Borno

At least four soldiers have been killed and five others injured after terrorists launched a coordinated attack on troops in the Ngamdu general area of Borno State.
The region, which has long been plagued by repeated assaults from Boko Haram terrorists, came under siege on Thursday night in what military sources described as a fierce and prolonged exchange of fire.
Although some local residents claimed that as many as 10 soldiers were killed, the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI confirmed on Friday that four soldiers were killed in action (KIA), while five others sustained injuries.
In a statement issued by the command’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the army explained that the terrorists attacked using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and command-initiated improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
“Despite the intensity of the attack, troops held their ground and responded with superior firepower, inflicting significant losses on the terrorists. Unfortunately, our troops recorded four killed in action and five wounded,” the statement read.
The army also confirmed that some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) and gun trucks sustained damage during the attack.
The insurgents reportedly attempted to cut off reinforcements and increase casualties by planting IEDs along the Ngamdu-Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR).

According to Uba, this forced a temporary closure of the road, but military engineers were quickly deployed and successfully cleared three IED-laden spots.
“Following successful clearance, the MSR has now been reopened to both military and civilian movement,” he added.
The statement further revealed that credible intelligence confirmed heavy losses on the terrorists’ side, with reports of mass burials of about 15 bodies around Bula Wura, near Wasaram, after the clash.
In response, the 29 Task Force Brigade has launched fresh fighting patrols and exploitation operations to deny the insurgents freedom of movement and consolidate security gains in the area.
The military assured residents of Ngamdu and neighbouring communities that normalcy has been restored, adding that troops have been resupplied with logistics, tyres, and ammunition to sustain operations.
“The gallantry and resilience of the troops have been commended, and the public is assured that normalcy will be sustained with ongoing operations aimed at maintaining peace and security,” the statement concluded.
