Tinubu Assures Calm Amid Trump’s Military Threat, Says Nigeria Will Emerge Stronger

The authorities have released the names of 25 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga (GGCSS Maga) in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following a deadly raid on Monday.

Among the hundreds of scenes of violence across the country, this incident has now drawn the full attention of the federal government.

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians and the families of the abducted students that the full weight of the Federal Government will be brought to bear until the girls are safely returned. The assurance was delivered via the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, during his visit to Kebbi on Wednesday.

“We must deploy all instruments of state to ensure their rescue,” the president is reported to have said.

Shettima touched down at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport on Wednesday with senior members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and proceeded to meet with Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State.

Describing the abduction as “unfortunate,” Shettima affirmed that President Tinubu’s priority remains the safe return of the girls.
He also praised the security agencies for their sacrifices and pledged federal cooperation.

According to Shettima, “The President’s priority is the safe return of the schoolgirls,” and the government is “committed, determined and working around the clock.”

It is worth knowing that the raid, which occurred in the early hours of Monday at the school hostel, saw the vice-principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, gunned down near his quarters while trying to resist the attackers.

Security sources say bandits scaled the school’s fence, moved swiftly through the hostel and abducted the students without initial resistance. A coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving police tactical units, military personnel and vigilantes has since been deployed.

Shettima announced that Makuku will be honoured by the federal government alongside Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was recently killed by terrorists during a separate operation.

Kebbi State Govt Pledges Support to Federal Efforts

Governor Nasir Idris, during his meeting with Shettima, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his intervention and reassured that the Kebbi State Government “is creating an enabling environment for security agencies to operate.”

He said that state authorities were working in tandem with federal forces to expedite the recovery of the kidnapped girls.

This abduction has drawn widespread condemnation both within Nigeria and internationally. With the country still contending with repeated school kidnappings, the federal government’s response is being closely monitored.

Analysts say that the incident may test Nigeria’s ability to respond to mass kidnappings and to reassure parents and citizens that schools are safe.
