Gov Umo Eno Dissolves All Boards, Commissions in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the dissolution of all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Uyo by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, who explained that the decision took immediate effect.

According to Uwah, the governor acted in line with the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023.

He added that the decision was part of the administration’s strategy to reposition governance in line with the promises made in the governor’s ARISE agenda.

The SSG further directed all chairpersons of the defunct boards and commissions to hand over government property in their custody to the most senior officers in their respective establishments.

This marks a sweeping shake-up across state parastatals, affecting both statutory agencies created by law and non-statutory ones established by executive fiat.

Governor Hinted at Move Earlier

Governor Eno had, during a media briefing to mark the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation in 2024, hinted at the looming dissolution of the state executive council, including statutory and non-statutory boards.

At the time, he explained that the move would not come as a surprise to the commissioners and board members who, according to him, had dedicated their time and energy to the state’s growth.

He noted that he was “waiting for the right time” to hold a valedictory session in appreciation of their contributions before formally announcing the dissolution.
