Gunmen Abduct Ex-PDP Ward Chairman in Kwara
Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Abubakar Sabi Sise, has been abducted by suspected kidnappers during a midnight raid.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, threw the quiet community into panic as the attackers fired several gunshots before whisking away the prominent trader.
Sources told Vanguard that the assailants arrived around 12am and immediately began shooting into the air to frighten residents.
One of the victim’s sons, who was returning home late, was reportedly intercepted by the armed men and ordered at gunpoint to summon his father.
The kidnappers allegedly forced the elder Sise to open the door, after which they seized him and left other family members unharmed.
By dawn, residents found empty shells and some live bullets scattered around the premises, confirming the intensity of the gunfire used to subdue the neighbourhood.
Witnesses described the operation as swift and frightening, noting that the attackers disappeared within minutes after abducting the former PDP ward chairman.
The local vigilante group in Boriya was immediately alerted and has begun searching the surrounding bushes and adjoining communities in hopes of rescuing the victim.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Alhaji Sabi Sise remain unknown.
Thursday’s attack is the second kidnapping incident in the area within two months.
On September 17, another businessman was taken from his home in Shiya community, a short distance from Boriya.
Residents say the repeated incidents have heightened fear across Baruten communities.
When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, told journalists that he was not aware of the abduction but promised to verify the report.
“I am not aware of the incident, but I will find out,” he told Vanguard on Friday afternoon.
