‘I Met Yul At GCE Centre' - May Edochie Recalls Early Love Story with Actor Husband

May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has opened up about how she first met her husband long before fame, family, and controversy came into the picture.

Speaking during a recent lifestyle podcast interview, May shared that their paths first crossed in the most unexpected place, a General Certificate Examination (GCE) centre, during her university days.

According to her, the encounter happened when she had just moved from Lagos to Enugu for her studies at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), while Yul was a student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) at the time.

“Way back in school when I went to the East for my university, I’m a bookworm. It’s always been about books for me,” she said with a smile.

May revealed that their meeting was far from the typical romantic story many would imagine.

“We didn’t meet at a party or any glamorous setting. We met at a GCE centre,” she recounted.

Reflecting on that phase of her life, the mother of three described herself as a focused and academically driven young woman, noting that her priorities then revolved around education and self-improvement.

“At that time, my world was all about my studies. I wasn’t thinking about relationships or fame, just my books,” she added.

May and Yul Edochie’s marriage has been under public scrutiny since 2022, following Yul’s revelation of his second marriage to actress Judy Austin, which sparked widespread backlash and sympathy for May.
