I’ll never join APC but Tinubu is my leader – Fayose

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed reports suggesting that he plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Fayose made it clear that while he has a good relationship with President Bola Tinubu, his political allegiance remains firmly with the PDP.
“The PDP’s problem did not start today. I am not a member of the APC and I will never be,” he declared. “I didn’t hide my support for Asiwaju; I consider him a leader in Nigeria and particularly from our zone.”
The former governor, known for his outspoken nature, explained that his support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election was based on regional solidarity and personal admiration rather than a shift in party loyalty.
He described Tinubu as a respected national figure and political mentor to many, particularly within the South-West, adding that his decision to back him was not partisan but personal.
“Asiwaju Tinubu is a leader I respect, and I supported him openly. But that doesn’t make me a member of the APC,” he said.

Fayose’s comments come at a time when the PDP is battling an exodus of key members, including governors, lawmakers, and party officials, who have recently defected to the APC.
Despite the wave of defections, Fayose insisted he would stay in the PDP, urging the party to resolve its lingering internal disputes and rebuild public trust.
“The PDP needs to fix itself. Our issues are deep-rooted, but leaving the party is not the solution,” he said.
Ayodele Fayose, who governed Ekiti State from 2014 to 2018, remains one of the most visible figures in the PDP’s South-West structure.
He has often been outspoken about intraparty crises and the need for reforms within the opposition, even as he maintains cordial relations with President Tinubu.
