INEC extends FCT voter registration by four days

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by four days.

The electoral body said the extension followed a review of ongoing electoral activities during its third quarterly meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, INEC said the registration exercise, earlier scheduled to end on Wednesday, October 8, will now continue until Sunday, October 12, 2025.

The commission explained that the decision was taken to accommodate the high turnout of registrants across the territory and to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.

“As of 7th October 2025, a total of 55,346 new voter registrations had been recorded in the FCT, comprising 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations,” the statement read.

“This impressive turnout underscores the growing civic awareness among residents and the effectiveness of devolving the exercise to the grassroots.”

INEC reiterated that the online pre-registration option in the FCT remains suspended, insisting that all pre-registered voters must complete their registration in person at designated centres in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.

“Registered voters who wish to transfer their registration to the FCT or within the FCT are also encouraged to do so within this period,” it added.

The commission also warned that multiple registration remains a criminal offence punishable under the law.

INEC said the list and addresses of all registration centres are available on its official website and social media platforms, urging residents to make use of the information to locate their nearest centres.

It further commended FCT residents for their cooperation and praised field officials and stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring a seamless and inclusive registration process.

“The Commission appreciates the cooperation of residents and the dedication of its field officers toward delivering a credible exercise,” the statement added.
