Insecurity: Abiodun Convenes Emergency Security Meeting in Ogun
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday held a strategic meeting with security chiefs in the state to review ongoing security operations and reinforce proactive measures amid rising insecurity across the country.
The governor disclosed this in a post on X, where he said the engagement was aimed at sustaining Ogun’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states.
Abiodun highlighted the need for continuous vigilance despite Ogun’s current safety status.
“We met with the security chiefs in Ogun State today to assess the level of security in the state and the country as it relates to us. As we often say, the best time to prepare for war is during a time of peace,” he wrote.
He noted that Ogun has consistently been rated among the most peaceful states in the federation, a status he insisted must be guarded diligently.
“Ogun State is currently regarded as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, if not the most peaceful, and it is important that we continue to protect and sustain that standing,” he added.
The governor emphasized that maintaining peace requires early detection of emerging threats and timely intervention.
According to him, periodic engagements with security agencies help prevent security breaches from escalating.
“To maintain this position, we must stay proactive, strengthen our preparedness, and put in place the right measures to mitigate anything that could threaten our peace and stability,” Abiodun stated.
He described Monday’s meeting as particularly significant given the state of insecurity in other regions.
“This is not the first meeting of its kind, but it is a particularly important one, which is why we convened it today,” he noted.
Abiodun said the discussions align with wider efforts to safeguard residents, businesses, and communities across the state.
“These formed part of our remarks as we engaged with the service chiefs this morning, reaffirming our shared commitment to keeping Ogun State safe, peaceful, and secure for all,” he added.
The meeting comes at a time when insecurity continues to escalate across several states.
Last Friday, bandits abducted 215 students and 12 teachers at St Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara LGA of Niger State. By Sunday, authorities confirmed that 50 students had managed to escape.
This incident occurred just days after 26 schoolgirls were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
Similarly, in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced the rescue of 38 abducted worshippers following an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA.
As insecurity spreads nationwide, Abiodun’s administration says it will continue working closely with security agencies to prevent similar occurrences in Ogun State.
