Kwankwaso Seeks Urgent Probe as Insecurity Worsens Nationwide
Former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Federal Government to urgently investigate the rising wave of insecurity across the country, describing recent attacks as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
In a statement posted via his verified X account on Wednesday, Kwankwaso condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where gunmen stormed the school on motorcycles and engaged security personnel in a gun battle before escaping with the students.
He described the incident as another tragic reminder of the worsening state of security nationwide.
Kwankwaso also mourned the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, calling the ambush “one of the darkest moments” in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.
“This shocking intelligence and operational failure demands an immediate and thorough investigation,” he said.
He further decried the spate of mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, describing the situation as “truly heartbreaking” and urging security agencies to move swiftly to rescue abducted victims.
According to Kwankwaso, the repeated attacks show that insecurity has taken a disturbing new dimension in several northern states.
Kwankwaso raised alarm over recent bandit attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano State, noting that residents were living in fear due to persistent raids.
He cited several incidents, including the killing of three villagers after bandits crossed from Katsina State, the kidnapping of two nursing mothers from Faruruwa community in Shanono and ongoing threats from armed groups across border communities.
“These areas have seen repeated violence… These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” he stated.
Kwankwaso commended the Kano State Government for providing security vehicles to relevant agencies but insisted that deeper structural measures were needed to confront the scale of attacks.
The former governor urged the Federal Government to strengthen the armed forces and empower the Nigeria Police Force to fulfill their constitutional mandate of protecting citizens.
He called for “a renewed and robust federal response” capable of restoring confidence and reversing recent security setbacks.
On Monday, heavily armed bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, abducting 25 students and killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that 25 schoolgirls were taken during the assault.
Kwankwaso said the frequent recurrence of such attacks underscores the urgent need for comprehensive, intelligence-led security reforms nationwide.
