Kwara Police Nab Five Suspects Linked to Bloody Oke-Ode Attack

The Kwara State Police Command has successfully apprehended five suspects allegedly involved in the deadly attack on the Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The assault, which took place on Sunday, September 28, 2025, left at least 12 residents dead, including the Baale of Ogba-Ayo, and led to the abduction of several others.

The suspects, identified as Umar Babuga, Mohammed Ahmed, Aliyu Buba Alade, Sidi Buba Alade, and Sheu Buba Alade, were arrested by the Kwara State Police in connection with the attack, and they are currently undergoing investigation.

SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the arrests on Friday evening, stating, “They are currently in custody and undergoing investigation.”

The police spokesperson provided no further details but assured the public that the investigation was ongoing.

Meanwhile, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has directed sharp criticism at local informants who, according to him, play a significant role in enabling kidnappers and bandits to operate with impunity.

During a press briefing in Ilorin on Friday, Ojo said that the growing incidence of kidnapping in parts of the state could be attributed to the actions of individuals who provide intelligence to criminals.

Ojo stated, “Instead of informing the police officer about their dilemma for necessary actions, the relations of the abducted victims would be sourcing for money to pay the bandits.”

He further emphasized that these informants often put victims’ families in difficult positions, where they are threatened by kidnappers and feel compelled to pay ransoms without reporting the incident to the police.

The police commissioner also expressed concern over the delayed reporting of kidnapping incidents to security agencies, highlighting the challenges faced by families in distress.

He explained, “The problem is that when your wards are in the hands of the kidnappers, they threaten you that if you tell the police, they are going to kill the victims. So, because of that, many people will not give police information.”

Ojo urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement, stressing the importance of reporting criminal activities promptly.

“We are encouraging people to speak out,” he added, underscoring the need for a collective effort in curbing the growing insecurity in the state.

As the investigation into the Oke-Ode attack continues, the Kwara Police are focused on gathering evidence and identifying additional suspects involved in the deadly attack.

The authorities have vowed to pursue justice for the victims, with efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of the violence and the role of local informants in facilitating such criminal activities.

The arrest of the five suspects marks a significant step in the effort to restore security to Oke-Ode and other affected communities in the state.
