More Governors, Lawmakers Set To Join APC, Tinubu Before 2027 - Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that more state governors and key political figures will defect to the ruling party before the 2027 general election.

Yilwatda made this known on Tuesday at the 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting and endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Represented by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, the APC chair said President Tinubu’s achievements in office were already drawing opposition leaders into the fold.

“Our doors are still open, more governors are still moving into our party, more personalities are still moving in, senators, members of the House of Representatives, because of the calibre, integrity and the output of the person we made president,” Yilwatda said.

He stressed that the party would continue to consolidate its hold on power by welcoming defectors who believe in Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria.

Recall that the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwore, and his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Umo Eno, both dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently to join the APC in open support of Tinubu’s re-election ambition.

The development has been described by party stakeholders as a sign of more high-profile defections to come, particularly in the South-South region.

Dismissing the strength of opposition parties ahead of 2027, Yilwatda likened Tinubu to a lion, saying the president would not be distracted by small players.

“Other people are running around trying to challenge the president in the 2027 election, but of course you know, when you have a lion and other small animals are barking, the lion doesn’t even take notice of them; he goes about his duties properly,” he said.
