Mr Eazi Declares Presidential Interest

Afrobeats singer and entrepreneur, Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has revealed his ambition to run for the presidency of an African country in the near future.

The award-winning artiste, who recently tied the knot with Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, made the disclosure in a video broadcast shared via Snapchat.

In the video, the Skin Tight crooner said he had been reflecting on the idea of political leadership and now feels ready to make his intentions public.

“I have been thinking about it. I think it’s time to share it with you guys,” he said.

“Some of you might be from some country, specifically in Africa, and you are looking for a president, a president who is not looking for money and power but forward-thinking, young, active and can move your country better.

His statement has since generated widespread reactions online, with many fans expressing curiosity about whether his political ambition would be in Nigeria, Ghana, or elsewhere on the continent.

Although Nigerian by birth, Mr Eazi has deep ties to Ghana, where he studied and launched his music career.

The singer has often credited Ghana for influencing his sound, which he famously branded as Banku Music, a fusion of Nigerian rhythms and Ghanaian melodies.

His unique cross-border identity has made him one of the most pan-African voices in contemporary Afrobeats, with strong fan bases across both countries.

Mr Eazi’s revelation adds to the growing list of Nigerian entertainers showing interest in politics, a trend that has continued to gain traction in recent years.

In April 2025, Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus announced her desire to contest for a senatorial seat, while several other celebrities have joined or hinted at similar moves.

In a 2019 interview, former senator Ben Murray-Bruce even predicted that singer Davido could one day become the Governor of Osun State, citing the star’s influence among Nigerian youths.

From Music to Governance

While Mr Eazi has not disclosed which country he intends to lead or the timeline for his political ambitions, his message emphasized youth inclusion, integrity, and innovation in governance.

Observers say his declaration mirrors a growing sentiment among young Africans seeking fresh, dynamic leadership that reflects their aspirations.

As one of Afrobeats’ most successful entrepreneurs, with investments spanning tech, fashion, and creative industries, Mr Eazi’s interest in politics could mark a bold step from stage lights to state leadership.
