Nnamdi Kanu’s Wife Fumes Over Sokoto Prison Relocation, Accuses Lawyers of Poor Conduct
Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has criticised her husband’s legal consultants for failing to inform her about his transfer to a correctional centre in Sokoto State.
The development followed Thursday’s judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which convicted and sentenced the IPOB leader to life imprisonment on terrorism charges.

Kanu’s legal consultant, Aloy Ejimakor, had revealed on Friday that the separatist leader had been relocated from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody to a prison facility in Sokoto.
“MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and wellwishers,” Ejimakor posted on X.
Reacting shortly after, Okwu-Kanu said she only received confirmation “about three hours ago” that her husband had arrived at the new facility.
She expressed anger that individuals who visited Kanu earlier in the day did not inform her before the lawyers “ran to social media to broadcast it”.
According to her, the conduct was unprofessional and unacceptable.
“If you all do not sit up and behave in a civilised and professional manner, I will stress you with my ‘stress’ and I promise you, you will be stressed,” she wrote.
“Enough of your theatrics! Be warned!”
Meanwhile, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, reacted to the judgment, saying the life sentence handed to Kanu was not surprising.
Abaribe argued that the Federal Government’s refusal to grant Kanu amnesty, unlike other armed groups, made Thursday’s outcome predictable.
The senator insisted that the controversial trial and the subsequent sentence showed the government’s unwillingness to pursue political solutions in the matter.
