‘Party Has Lost Direction’ – Reps Member Sadiq Abdullahi Dumps PDP

A member of the House of Representatives representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Sadiq Abdullahi, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing what he described as the party’s “deepening internal crisis” and “loss of direction.”
The lawmaker made the announcement in a letter addressed to his ward chairman, which was made public on Monday, marking yet another high-profile exit from the opposition party in recent weeks.
Abdullahi, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the lingering divisions within the PDP had made it difficult for him to perform his legislative duties effectively.
“The persistent internal conflicts and factionalisation within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are adversely affecting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and perform my duties optimally,” he said.
The lawmaker lamented that repeated attempts to resolve the infighting had failed, leaving the party “weakened and directionless” at both the national and state levels.
Despite his resignation, Abdullahi expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve on its platform and for the experiences gained during his time in the party.

“I wish to sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform. The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party have been invaluable,” he added.
He did not disclose whether he would be joining another political party, but his departure is seen as part of a broader wave of discontent among PDP members.
Abdullahi’s resignation comes barely days after the former National Secretary of the PDP, Sunday Udeh Okoye, also quit the party, citing similar reasons related to internal divisions and poor leadership management.
The back-to-back resignations have raised fresh concerns about unity within the opposition party as it grapples with internal wrangling ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP has been battling a prolonged leadership tussle, with factional interests pulling in different directions at both national and state levels.
Party insiders have described the recent string of defections as a warning sign that the opposition needs urgent reconciliation and a clear strategic direction to remain relevant ahead of the next election cycle.
Meanwhile, several PDP chieftains, including governors and former lawmakers, have called for a comprehensive reform process to restore confidence among members and prevent further defections.
As of press time, the PDP leadership had not issued an official response to Abdullahi’s resignation.
