PDP Crisis Deepens As Wike Bloc Sacks Makinde, Bode George, Dissolves Six State EXCOs
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party escalated sharply on Tuesday after the National Executive Committee loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the expulsion of three serving governors and several top party leaders.
At a NEC meeting held at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, the pro-Wike group expelled Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
Also expelled were former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former National Vice Chairman, Chief Bode George; and the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
The faction further dissolved the PDP State Executive Committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti States, while affirming the Edo State leadership under Nosa Ogieva.
The decisions were contained in the communiqué read by the faction’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, after the meeting.
Reading from the communiqué, Anyanwu stated: “NEC approved the expulsion of the following: Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden.”
He added that the expulsions were based on anti-party activities, disobedience of court judgments, and actions capable of causing disaffection within the party.
According to him, the move became necessary to “stabilise the PDP” and restore discipline.
The pro-Wike Acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the memo recommending the expulsions, accused the affected leaders of repeatedly undermining the party’s constitution.
He said their alleged violations had “brought the party into disrepute” and could no longer be overlooked.
The announcement comes just days after last Saturday’s PDP national convention in Ibadan, convened by the opposing faction, where Wike and ten other prominent members were suspended for alleged anti-party activities.
The Ibadan faction accused the Wike bloc of attempts to “destabilise the party structure” ahead of a nationwide reorganisation.
Tension boiled over earlier on Tuesday when both factions arrived at the PDP National Secretariat in Wadata Plaza to hold parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings.
The confrontation quickly devolved into chaos as supporters from both sides clashed, forcing security operatives to intervene. Heated arguments, pushing and counter-shouting matches led to parts of the secretariat being temporarily shut down before both factions eventually proceeded with separate meetings.
The deepening division leaves the PDP in its most volatile state in years, with analysts warning that the party faces a prolonged battle unless reconciliation efforts begin immediately.
