PDP Dismisses Anyanwu’s Forgery Claim, Says He Signed INEC Letter Himself

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations of signature forgery made by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, describing the claim as “false, baseless, and self-contradictory.”

The party said Anyanwu personally signed the official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying it of the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the document was signed by Anyanwu in the presence of governors and top party leaders.

“Senator Anyanwu personally signed the letter to INEC announcing the forthcoming national convention, alongside other official correspondences, in the full presence of the PDP Governors and members of the National Working Committee,” Ologunagba said.

Ologunagba clarified that the signatures were appended just hours before the 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on August 25, adding that several senior party stakeholders witnessed the process.

“The signing took place in the presence of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, among others,” he explained.

The PDP spokesperson further noted that the governors and NEC members verified that all relevant documents, including the notification to INEC, had been duly executed by the National Secretary himself.

Ologunagba maintained that the NWC viewed the forgery allegation as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and destabilise the party ahead of its national convention.

He added that during the NEC meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, also confirmed that all the letters in question were duly signed and validated.

“It is on record that Governor Bala Mohammed, as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, confirmed during the NEC meeting that all relevant letters, including the one to INEC, were duly signed,” Ologunagba stated.

He urged party members and the public to disregard the forgery claim, assuring that the PDP leadership remains united and focused on preparing for the November convention.
