Relief In Kebbi As 25 Abducted Schoolgirls Regain Freedom

The 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, have regained their freedom, multiple government and security sources confirmed on Tuesday.

A senior government official, who spoke to journalists said the girls were rescued earlier in the day and were already being transported to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

“The girls have been freed. They are on their way to the State House,” the source said.

While authorities have confirmed the successful rescue, details of how the operation unfolded were still unclear as of press time.

Security operatives, however, disclosed that the breakthrough followed intensified joint operations involving the military, police, vigilantes, and intelligence units, who combed forest corridors and escape routes linked to the attackers.

The schoolgirls were abducted on Monday, November 17, when gunmen invaded their boarding school in Maga, whisking away the students in the latest wave of school-targeted attacks in the region.

More official updates are expected as security agencies brief the state government on the rescue operation.
