Stop Bathing Newborns Daily - Toke Makinwa Urges Mothers

Nollywood actress and media personality, Toke Makinwa, has advised new mothers to reconsider the practice of bathing their newborns every day, warning that it could damage their skin.

Makinwa, who recently welcomed her first child at age 40, shared the advice in a video posted on her social media page, noting that babies are naturally clean and do not require daily washing.

Makinwa Explains Why She Avoids Daily Bathing

The actress said newborns should be gently wiped rather than bathed frequently, stressing that their skin is extremely delicate.

“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty,” she said.

She added that she does not bathe her child every day because it is unnecessary.

“Babies are not on the floor; they are not dirty or sweaty. So, why are you excessively putting water on their skin? Their skin is fragile. You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there,” she stated.

Mixed Reactions Trail Actress’s Advice

Makinwa’s comments have triggered mixed reactions online, with many users questioning her experience and qualifications.

While some mothers agreed with her and shared similar practices, others criticised her position, insisting she lacked the professional background to advise on newborn hygiene.

The debate comes at a time of heightened public interest in child safety and healthcare, especially as concerns continue to rise over the wellbeing of schoolchildren following recent mass abductions in parts of the country.
