Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas Set to Dump PDP for APC
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced that he will formally leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19, marking one of the most significant political shifts in the North-East ahead of the 2027 polls.
Kefas confirmed his defection over the weekend while inspecting renovation works at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.
Speaking with journalists, the governor said his decision was driven by what he called the long-term interests of the state.
“I will officially transition from the PDP to the APC on November 19. This movement is about the destiny and future of the people of Taraba,” he stated.
Kefas dismissed suggestions that his move came with political demands or concessions from the APC.
When asked directly if any conditions were tabled before he agreed to switch parties, the governor replied, “There were none.”
He added that full preparations were underway to host guests expected for the reception event.
Members of the Taraba State Executive Council have openly declared support for the governor’s defection.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, who spoke on behalf of the cabinet, said all political appointees and allies were ready to move with the governor.
“The governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we go with him,” Aruwa said.
He explained that working more closely with the federal government under the APC administration would help accelerate development across the state.
“This movement is for the entire people of Taraba State, and we are with him 100 per cent,” he added.
