Terrorists Reportedly Ambush Rescue Team in Kebbi School Attack
Scores of troops deployed to rescue the 25 abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, reportedly sustained injuries after terrorists ambushed their convoy.
The ambush occurred barely 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered a no-holds-barred operation against bandits terrorising the North-West.
During a briefing with commanders of Operation Fasan Yamma, Shaibu directed troops to maintain relentless pressure on the bandits responsible for the abduction.
“You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children,” he warned, stressing that operational commanders must rely strictly on intelligence to execute precision strikes.
He added, “Once you receive information on something like this, act professionally and decisively. This is not just about our image; it is about doing our job properly.”
Following his directive, troops commenced a 24-hour rescue operation stretching across difficult forest terrain.
In the course of the mission, terrorists ambushed the advancing soldiers, unleashing heavy gunfire on their vehicles.
Video clips obtained by reporters showed wounded soldiers lying on the ground, awaiting evacuation.
One of the injured troops, speaking in Hausa, said, “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
The operational vehicle used by the team was also riddled with bullet holes, indicating the scale of the firefight.
Security forces have since reinforced deployment in the area, with troops continuing search-and-rescue operations to locate the abducted schoolgirls.
Medical teams have also been dispatched to stabilise and evacuate the wounded soldiers.
However, the Nigerian Army has not released casualty figures but reaffirmed its commitment to recovering the schoolgirls and eliminating the attackers.
