Tinubu Extends Surveyor-General’s Tenure by Two Years
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a two-year extension of the tenure of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.
The extension, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, was announced on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, the decision followed the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency, a move that places the agency directly under the supervision of the President.
“The extension, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, was necessitated by the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency,” the statement read.
Onanuga noted that Adebomehin had already embarked on a series of reforms in the nation’s geospatial data systems, which President Tinubu is eager to see completed within the new extension period.
“The Surveyor-General has initiated reforms across critical sectors of geospatial data systems, which the President is keen to see completed,” he added.
The President, he said, expects Adebomehin to consolidate these reforms with a focus on national land management and administration, highway and abutting land coordination, reclamation and erosion control, and other projects of strategic national importance.
Adebomehin was first appointed as Surveyor-General of the Federation by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 5, 2022.
His tenure extension is seen as part of the administration’s plan to strengthen the geospatial and land management sectors, which play key roles in national planning, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability.
