Tinubu Meets New Service Chiefs In Abuja
President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, held his first official meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The closed-door session, which took place at Aso Rock, came barely three days after the President announced a sweeping shake-up in the nation’s military hierarchy.
Details of the deliberations were still unknown at the time of filing this report.
Last Friday, Tinubu approved wide-ranging changes in the Armed Forces, a move he said was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
The President announced the appointments via his official 𝕏 handle, naming General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
In his announcement, Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing service chiefs for what he described as their years of “selfless service and dedicated leadership.”
He urged the newly appointed chiefs to embrace professionalism and unity in the discharge of their duties.
“I have approved changes in the hierarchy of our Armed Forces to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture,” Tinubu said.
“I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and dedicated leadership, and I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour.”
The President’s meeting with the new chiefs is expected to centre on strategies to tackle the country’s multiple security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and oil theft.
