Wike Dismisses Report of 2027 Presidential Bid, Vows Loyalty to Tinubu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly rejected media claims suggesting that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are pushing him to contest the 2027 presidential election. In a statement released on Saturday, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the reports as baseless and malicious.

A Bold Denial: Wike Dismisses Allegations as ‘Another Lie from Idle Minds’

The allegations, which circulated via an online platform, suggested that Wike was being urged by PDP leaders to run for President. However, Olayinka swiftly addressed the rumors, calling them “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”

He further criticized those behind the misinformation, asserting that Wike has always been transparent about his political stance. “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka emphasized. He condemned the attempts to drag the FCT minister into unnecessary political drama, stating that Wike’s character and political decisions have always been in the open.

In his statement, Olayinka reiterated that Wike had no intention of running for the presidency in 2027. He rejected the idea that the minister had strayed from his political commitments. “Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says and says what he does.”

Olayinka asserted that Wike’s political future remains firmly tied to President Tinubu, despite the ongoing political maneuverings within PDP. According to him, Wike’s position has always been clear: “the Minister has made it clear where he stands as long as the 2027 presidential election is concerned — he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Olayinka also addressed claims about a PDP stakeholders meeting that allegedly discussed Wike’s presidential bid. He clarified that the only meeting held by PDP stakeholders from southern Nigeria was on August 20, 2025. The purpose of the gathering, according to Olayinka, was to prepare for a meeting scheduled for August 21 that was intended to finalize decisions on party positions.

He further detailed the press statement issued after the meeting, which was signed by several PDP leaders from the South-East and South-South regions, including state party chairmen and legislators. “The outcome of the meeting was made public via a press statement,” he added, distancing the minister from any alleged political shifts within the PDP.

Wike’s Future Lies in Advancing Tinubu’s Agenda

Responding to questions regarding his political future, Olayinka made it clear that Wike’s loyalty to President Tinubu’s administration remains unwavering. He explained that Wike’s current focus is on advancing the “Renewed Hope Agenda” for Nigeria’s capital city. According to Olayinka, Wike’s main goal is to ensure that the FCT becomes a world-class capital through sustained infrastructure development and policy reforms aligned with President Tinubu’s vision.

“To ensure the success of the President’s re-election, Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT by actualising the visions of the President for a federal capital city that can compete with other capital cities in the world in terms of infrastructural development,” Olayinka concluded.

Political Drama and False Claims: Wike’s Stand on Integrity

In a final statement, Olayinka noted that the false claims made against Wike were an attempt to tarnish his reputation and disrupt his political standing. He urged the public and media to disregard unsubstantiated reports and instead focus on Wike’s commitment to the development of the FCT and his support for Tinubu’s administration.

“We know their intention though. But unfortunately for them, and the platform they are using to propagate their idle plots, the person and character of the FCT Minister is known to everyone — he does not do anything in hiding,” Olayinka added, reaffirming Wike’s integrity and loyalty to the nation’s leadership.
