My Family Comes First, I Can’t Afford to Be a Failed Father – Adekunle Gold

Afro-pop star Adekunle Gold has opened up about his deep commitment to family, saying that his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Adejare, remain the centre of his life.
The ‘Orente’ crooner said no level of success in music could ever replace his role as a husband and father, stressing that he would rather be remembered for being a responsible man than a chart-topping artist.
Speaking on the NotJustOk Podcast, Adekunle Gold said fatherhood has reshaped his priorities and inspired much of his recent music.
“My family is my centre. I don’t joke with my family. I can afford to be a failed musician, but not a failed father or man. That’s not negotiable for me,” he declared.
He said his song ‘My Love Is the Same’ was born out of a personal commitment to give his daughter a better life than he had growing up.
“All I want is to do more for my daughter because I can’t afford to bring her into the kind of life that I grew up living. It has to be way better. That’s why I’m working hard,” he explained.
Adekunle Gold, who married singer Simi in 2019, has often credited her for influencing his sound and outlook on life. The couple’s creative partnership has produced several hit collaborations, including ‘Chemistry’ and ‘By You’.
