Police fixes date to mark 70 years of women in service
The Nigeria Police Force has announced December 3 and 4 as dates to commemorate 70 years of women in policing in the country.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
He said the commemoration marks seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedication to service since the first batch of policewomen was enlisted in 1955.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, will join serving and retired female officers to celebrate the milestone.
Egbetokun commended the invaluable contributions of women officers to the operational effectiveness and public image of the Force.
“The dedication and compassion of women in policing have continued to be integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria,”
the IGP was quoted as saying.
He added that over the past seven decades, female officers have excelled across various roles, from administration and investigation to tactical operations and command leadership.
“They have embodied integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation,”
Egbetokun said.
Hundeyin said activities lined up for the event include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme.
He noted that the celebration underscores the IGP’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for women in policing.
“The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, who have served in its ranks,”
the statement added.
Hundeyin said the Force would continue to celebrate its women for their courage, professionalism, and contributions to national security.
“Their courage and professionalism remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation,”
he said.
