Plateau Imposes 48-Hour Curfew on Jos North After Deadly Attack
The Plateau State Government led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack by gunmen in the area.
The State Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
Ramnap said the curfew became necessary after gunmen attacked the Angwan Rukuba community on Sunday night, leaving several persons dead and many others injured.
She described the incident as an unprovoked assault on innocent residents, which has heightened security concerns in the area.
Announcing the directive, the commissioner said the decision was taken in collaboration with security agencies to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
“The Plateau government, in conjunction with the security agencies, have imposed a 48-hour curfew within Jos North LGA.
“The curfew will run from midnight on Sunday, March 29, to Wednesday, April 1,” she stated.
While condemning the attack, Ramnap called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by adhering strictly to the curfew order.
She urged citizens to be law-abiding and avoid actions that could escalate tensions in the area.
The commissioner assured residents that the government, in partnership with security operatives, had put measures in place to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
She added that efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The curfew underscores growing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Jos North, where sporadic attacks have continued to threaten peace and stability.
Authorities say the restriction of movement is a temporary measure aimed at restoring order while investigations and security operations continue.
