What Tinubu Said As INEC Declares Adeleke Winner of Osun Governorship Election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, saying the result showed that the people of the state had confidence in him.

Tinubu, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, also urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite the people of Osun State and promote development.

The President said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his re-election.

Tinubu stated, “I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.”

The President wished Adeleke success as he prepares to begin another four-year term in office.

Tinubu, however, urged the governor to put the election behind him and work for all residents of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations.

He said, “Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.”

The President also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, describing their participation as a contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s democracy.

He said, “I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture.”

According to Tinubu, the outcome of the election reflected the choice of the people of Osun State.

He added, “The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land.”

Tinubu also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their roles in the conduct of the election.

He commended them for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

The President said the peaceful conduct of the poll was important to strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, according to the declared results.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes.

The result gives Adeleke another four years at the helm of affairs in Osun State.
