Oyo Guber: Adelabu Denies Resignation From Tinubu’s Cabinet
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports of his alleged resignation, describing a letter circulating on social media as fake.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, the minister said he had not submitted any resignation letter, contrary to widespread speculation.
Adelabu said the purported resignation letter being circulated online did not originate from him, urging the public to disregard it.
Reacting to the claims, he stated that no such decision had been taken at this time, insisting that he remains focused on his current role.
Despite dismissing the resignation reports, the minister openly reaffirmed his interest in contesting the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
He declared that his political ambition remains firmly set on the Agodi Government House, while noting that any formal step would be taken in due course and with necessary approvals.
“Of course, yes, I am very much in the race,” he said.
“But I will act at the appropriate time, and you will be duly informed, but will be with the consent of Mr President.
“For now, I’m committed to my present assignment. It’s still about service, whether national or sub-national.”
Meanwhile, political activities within the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State have intensified ahead of the 2027 elections.
A group known as the Renewed Hope Agenda Ambassadors, led by Teslim Folarin, has been engaging stakeholders across the 33 local government areas of the state since 2025.
The group is said to be working towards reconciling aggrieved members and strengthening party unity in preparation for the polls.
Its broader objective includes mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and securing victory for the APC in Oyo State, with the governorship seat as a key target.
There are also indications that the race for the APC governorship ticket in Oyo State may be highly competitive.
The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sarafadeen Ali, is reportedly eyeing the party’s ticket, setting the stage for a potential contest among key political figures.
The development comes amid a directive by President Tinubu mandating all political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31.
The directive, according to the Presidency, is in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries.
While Adelabu has yet to formally resign, his confirmation of interest in the governorship race signals growing political realignments within the APC in Oyo State.
