Osun Election Results: Davido Declares Adeleke Winner

Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is leading in Saturday’s governorship election.

Davido made the claim in a series of posts on social media as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission continued the sorting and counting of votes across the state.

The singer, who openly campaigned and mobilised support for Adeleke ahead of the election, also claimed that the All Progressives Congress lost in the polling ward of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.

Reacting to the emerging results, Davido expressed confidence that the incumbent governor would retain his position.

He wrote, “Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!”

Davido did not provide details of the specific polling units or results to support the claim in the post.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant throughout the night, alleging that there could be attempts to influence the outcome of the election.

The singer wrote, “I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee.”

‘We Are Winning’

In another post, Davido reiterated his confidence in Adeleke’s chances of winning the election and urged security agencies to maintain their presence at polling and electoral locations.

He stated, “We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units.”

Davido’s comments came as INEC officials moved into the post-election phase of the exercise, with votes being sorted and counted at polling units across the state.

Following the conclusion of voting, INEC officials commenced the sorting and counting of ballot papers at polling units across the 30 local government areas of Osun State.

As of 5:51pm on Saturday, results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal, according to a check by PUNCH Online.

The commission has yet to officially declare a winner.

The election was contested by several candidates, with the incumbent governor, Adeleke, of the Peoples Democratic Party, the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, among the major contenders.

Earlier, the three leading candidates had expressed optimism about their chances of winning the election after casting their ballots.

Adeleke expressed confidence in victory after voting at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.

Similarly, Oyebamiji said he was confident of emerging victorious after casting his vote at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.

However, Salaam raised concerns over the conduct of the election, alleging that ADC agents were not recognised in several locations across the state.

The ADC candidate’s allegation, like Davido’s claims about the emerging results, was yet to be independently confirmed by INEC as of the time of filing this report.

With vote sorting and collation ongoing, attention has now shifted to the official results from the polling units and the eventual declaration by the electoral commission.
