Army Confirms Arrest Of Blogger Justice Crack
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a blogger and social media influencer, Justice Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, over allegations of inciting soldiers and attempting to misinform the public.
The Army said Chidiebere was arrested following complaints raised by some soldiers concerning feeding and welfare matters, which were later posted on social media.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele.
According to the statement, the matter is being investigated over an alleged breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy.
The Army said preliminary findings showed that some soldiers had discussed several issues with Chidiebere, including matters relating to their welfare.
It, however, alleged that the blogger appeared to have encouraged discontent among the soldiers during the conversations.
The statement read, “Preliminary report reveals that the soldiers discussed a wide range of issues with Justice Chidiebere who seemed to be inciting soldiers to create discontent within the system.”
The Army further claimed that one of the exchanges between Chidiebere and the soldiers bordered on subversion.
It said such conduct could have serious implications for military discipline and national security.
The statement added, “It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security.”
The Army said it considered the matter serious because of the need to preserve order, discipline and operational integrity within the armed forces.
The Army disclosed that Chidiebere was picked up alongside the soldiers involved in the matter for investigation.
It said the soldiers remained in military custody, while the blogger had been handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The statement noted that the action was taken as part of efforts to ensure that the matter is properly investigated under the law.
The Army reiterated its commitment to the rule of law, saying it would continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served.
It added, “We will continue to act within the ambits of the law in safeguarding our sovereignty.”
The development comes amid public concern over the influencer’s arrest after reports of his detention circulated on social media.
