Boko Haram Attacking North-East With Drones – Zulum Alerts FG
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has raised a critical alarm over the use of drones by Boko Haram insurgents to conduct surveillance and attacks in parts of the North-East.
Speaking in Mafa on Friday after a recent insurgent attack, Zulum urged the Federal Government to urgently review and bolster Nigeria’s airspace security to counter this emerging threat.
The governor shared his concern in a report monitored by BBC Hausa Service in Kaduna, saying he had been informed that insurgents had used drones in Dikwa, one of the towns recently attacked by Boko Haram.
“The major issue I want to raise here is the use of drones. I was informed that they used drones in Dikwa. This is extremely worrisome,” Zulum stated.
He warned that the increasing use of drones by enemies of the state posed a significant risk to national security, calling for urgent action and inter-agency collaboration to address the new threat.
“The increasing use of drones by adversaries is highly dangerous. We must come together and act decisively to tackle this new dimension,” Zulum said.
Zulum stressed the importance of tightening border security and enhancing the country’s aerial defence systems to protect the nation from further drone attacks. He called on both federal and state authorities to implement these measures without delay.
“We need to improve the protection of our airspace. This is an urgent step that should not be delayed,” he added.
The governor also addressed the issue of intelligence sharing, urging residents of Borno State to collaborate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent future attacks.
“Frankly, we received information that there would be an attack in Mafa, and all the relevant security agencies were duly informed. That’s why I suspect there might be internal sabotage somewhere in the system, and it must be investigated and corrected,” Zulum said.
