Buhari’s Burial Postponed

The burial of Nigeria’s former President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has been rescheduled from Monday to Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, confirmed the development while briefing journalists on Monday afternoon.
Radda disclosed that consultations were held with the late president’s family and associates in the United Kingdom before the decision to move the burial by a day was reached.
“We have made consultation with his family and people around him in London. We have concluded that the body will arrive tomorrow by 12pm,” he said.
According to him, Buhari’s remains will be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura at 2pm on Tuesday.
Reports are that the body of the former president is currently en route from London, where he passed away on Sunday following a prolonged, undisclosed illness.
Buhari, who served as both military Head of State and two-term civilian President, died on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82. His death has drawn widespread mourning across the country and beyond.

To honour the late president, the Katsina State Government declared Monday a public holiday, allowing civil servants and residents to mourn his passing.
Similarly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday announced a seven-day national mourning period in Buhari’s honour.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity,” a statement from the presidency read.
Heavy security presence is expected in Daura on Tuesday as dignitaries, political leaders, traditional rulers, and foreign representatives converge to pay their last respects.
Buhari will be buried in accordance with Islamic rites at the Gidan Mutum Daya cemetery near his Daura residence.
