‘Comrades Don’t Surrender’ – Dalung Knocks El-Rufai Over Arrest
A former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticised the decision of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to turn himself in to security agencies, describing it as a “great mistake.”
Dalung, who spoke during an interview on Trust TV, alleged that the Federal Government is wary of El-Rufai’s influence, a situation he claimed led to attempts to arrest and detain the politician.
According to Dalung, authorities had earlier attempted to arrest El-Rufai at the airport but were unsuccessful.
“The government is really afraid of El-Rufai, which is why they believed he might take some action, so they decided to arrest him,” he said.
He further suggested that any forceful attempt to apprehend the former governor could have triggered unrest.
The ex-minister faulted El-Rufai’s decision to voluntarily submit himself to security operatives, insisting that it weakened his position.
“El-Rufai chose to minimize his role and give himself up, which was the biggest mistake he made as a fellow member,” Dalung stated.
Dalung emphasised that in political struggles, surrendering undermines one’s cause and morale.
“Comrades don’t surrender. If you give up during a fight, you will end up feeling ashamed. It’s an established principle in struggle. When they strive to achieve something, they become very careful,” he added.
