Fubara Sacks Commissioners, Public Officers After Supreme Court Ruling

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed all commissioners and public officers serving in his administration.

The announcement, which takes immediate effect, was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday evening by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

The governor explained that the decision followed the recent Supreme Court judgment that restored him to office after months of political uncertainty in the state.

Before the formal announcement, Fubara had hosted a valedictory session with his cabinet at the Government House, Port Harcourt, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

During the meeting, he commended the outgoing commissioners and officers for their contributions to the development of the state over the last two years.

“Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the state in the last two years,” the statement read.

Fubara also used the session to call on Nigerians to unite and support President Bola Tinubu in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to serve Rivers State with renewed vigour and thanked citizens for their continued support.

The statement clarified that all commissioners and other public officers affected by the Supreme Court verdict have been relieved of their appointments immediately.

“Furthermore, the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” it added.

The development comes in the wake of months of political turmoil in Rivers State.

It will be recalled that the former Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), upon assumption of office, suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants appointed by Fubara after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.

Ibas had also dissolved all boards and suspended heads of parastatals he met in office.

Until his exit on September 18, the fate of Fubara’s commissioners and appointees remained uncertain, hanging in the balance.
