‘Police Are The Unknown Gunmen, I’ll Tender Evidence’ – VeryDarkMan Alleges

Social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has challenged the Nigeria Police Force to take him to court if it wants access to the evidence backing his allegations against some police officers.

VDM made the statement while reacting to an invitation from the police over claims he made during the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The activist had appeared as a panellist at the conference on Tuesday, where he alleged that some police officers manning checkpoints on major highways provide kidnappers and bandits with information about travellers.

According to him, such information includes the identities and movements of motorists and other road users.

The Nigeria Police Force subsequently invited VDM to provide evidence to support his allegations.

The invitation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.

However, reacting through a post on his official Facebook page, VDM doubled down on his allegations and accused some police personnel of being part of the security problems confronting the country.

He went as far as alleging that some officers within the force are the “unknown gunmen” behind certain criminal activities.

“I SAID WHAT I SAID, you will get your evidence when I am charged to court,” VDM stated.

The activist made it clear that he would not submit his evidence directly to the police, insisting that he would present it before a court if the authorities decided to prosecute him.

“I repeat THE POLICE ARE THE UNKNOWN gunmen and they aid kidnappings. I’m going to give the police my evidence. I will be charged to court and I will tender the evidence in the court,” he declared.

The controversy followed VDM’s appearance at the NBA conference, where insecurity and the experiences of victims of violence formed part of discussions at the event.
